54When He had come to His own
country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and
said, "Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55Is
this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His
brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56And His sisters, are
they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?"
Matthew 13:54-56
This shows that Mary had other children through Joseph which refutes the idea of Mary being a perpetual virgin.
Jesus' Mother and Brothers Send for
Him
46 While He was still talking to the multitudes, behold,
His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. 47Then
one said to Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside,
seeking to speak with You."
48But He answered and said to the one who told Him, "Who is My
mother and who are My brothers?" 49And He stretched out His hand
toward His disciples and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! 50For
whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and
mother." Matthew 12:46-50
This shows that Mary had other children and these are not his disciples as some would have us believe. This passage teaches us that Jesus esteems all true believers the same. He doesn't hold His mother in more esteem because she is related to Him. Jesus says that whoever does the will of His Father in heaven is His brother and sister and mother.
46 And Mary said:
"My soul magnifies the Lord,
47And my spirit has rejoiced in God
my Savior.
Luke 1:46-47
21And she will bring forth
a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save
His people from their sins." Matthew 1:21
This shows that Mary was not sinless. Who needs a Savior but a sinner?
27And it came to pass, as
he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice,
and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which
thou hast sucked.
28But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word
of God, and keep it. Luke 11:27-28
This passage shows how Jesus rebuked those who were highly esteeming His mother to the point of idolatry.
God is a jealous God and will not share His glory with others. All glory and praise belong to Him.
8I am the LORD, that is My name;
And My glory I will not give to another,
Nor My praise to carved images.
Isaiah 42:8
