"And God will wipe away
every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor
crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Rev.
21:4
I was very close to Pele Thomas. I first met him back in January 1994 when I first attended Sovereign Grace Bible Church in Oakland, California. I remember he always used to have an open bible on his lap and he was a true prayer warrior. I remember we used to pray together and read together and I used to visit him at his home often and I used to help give him a ride to church. He had strong faith; even faith to believe that God can heal him one day, if that is His will. He told me one day that the word "Pele" means “wonderful” in Hebrew and it is found in Isaiah 9:6 and he said to me: “Peter do you believe that God can heal me?” I replied, “Yes, if it is His will.”
He was a big encouragement to me and to many. I remember one of his favorite hymns was “This is My Father’s World” and also “When We All Get to Heaven.” I remember he picked “When We All Get to Heaven” to sing after I got baptized. I remember how joyful he was when he was singing “When We All Get to Heaven.” He was waving his arms with joy. Now he truly knows how it feels to be in Heaven. He will be given a new glorified body and he will not be limited to a wheelchair anymore. All his sufferings and pain will end. I will leave you with the words of this hymn:
Sing the
wondrous love of Jesus,
Sing His mercy and His grace.
In the mansions bright and blessed
He’ll prepare for us a place.
When we
all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!
While we
walk the pilgrim pathway,
Clouds will overspread the sky;
But when traveling days are over,
Not a shadow, not a sigh.
Let us then
be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.
Onward to
the prize before us!
Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open;
We shall tread the streets of gold.
